Saturday Scavenger Shot: “Rock”

Well, it is Sunday, but I have a second post for Evil-E's scavenger hunt for the week. This is probably closer to the original intent.

Around 1973 or so, our family vacation was not in Missouri and Florida. We went up into northern Minnesota to Leech Lake. We stayed at a resort on the lake that I believe was called the Bayview Resort. It had a tiny harbor for the boats they rested to customers. In areas, there were piles of rocks to stabilize the shoreline. (Natalie, did you go near Leech Lake in your recent northern Minnesota vacation?)

It was in one of these stretches of rocks just off shore that I found the rock shown here. When I picked it up out of a few inches of water, it had a nice bright green beard of algea.

The beard did not last long after I put it in the back of the station wagon for the trip home, but I've had this rock ever since. I've almost lost it several times. It did outdoor gutter-splash duty outdoors for several years, during which it got green house paint splattered on it. It's now a doorstop for the basement door. The rock is about 8 inches across.

It's still Spocktober (with half a month yet to go). Even though I don't have a picture of the rock with a beard, I do have a picture of Spock with a beard to show you.

When I first saw the rock and hadn't read it yet, I thought it was a huge boulder. I thought you were super strong to move it.
