Holmen Mill in Wisconsin

This is a rare card in my collection. Just because it is from Holmen, Wisconsin, and I have never seen another postcard from Holmen, Wisconsin. The cards from the small towns like this can be rare and expensive. Cards from places like New York City can be really cool, and can be had for next to nothing because they are so common.

This card is probably about a hundred years old. I don't know if this mill still stands. If it did, it might be on the National Register of Historic Places, but I did not find it there. Maybe a Holmen or La Crosse blog reader will happen by and let me know if this old mill still exists.

Holmen is located on the north outskirts of Onalaska (La Crosse's sprawly big-box suburb) and is located a little ways south of the Garden of Eden.

I live in Holmen... Caught your blog on a Google Alert. I'm having trouble placing your directions. Southeast of Galesville would be north of Holmen and Onalaska is south. I know someone in the Holmen Area Historical Society and can ask her if she has any idea.

Oh, duh, I just rearead that and realized that you're saying where _Holmen_ is, not the mill. LOL! Sorry, guess my comment doesn't make much sense in that case. ;) I'll still ask my friend, though.

South of Galesville is probably a better way to put it, so I have changed the post.

I drive through La Crosse but have never been to it's suburb. I like that postcard, though.

Churlita: Onalaska is probably out of the way unless you are going to Galesville or Trempealeau.

Ok, I'm at the camera club meeting and got a bunch of folks here that know the area. This mill is no longer standing. Where it was is behind the feed & seed near the ballpark right down on main street.

Shirley, from the historical society, is interested in the photo. Can you shoot me an email if you're interested in sharing a copy? michelle at couleeregiononline.com .
