New Dogman Book - "Nagual"

This past Saturday, a new Dogman novel by Frank Holes Jr. was released. It is called Nagual: Dawn of the Dogmen, and it traces the legend back from modern times (taking the Dogman tale to the Lake Ann area in Benzie County) back through the 1700s and ultimately back to the last ice age, when ancient Native Americans faced annihilation by monsters.

In the acknowledgements page/disclaimer, author Frank Holes Jr. writes: "Also please note that this novel is not based on any known Native American legends. I know that the sharing of real stories and legends of our Native American friends is a highly sensitive topic, and the only references to the various tribes herein are for historical accuracy and identification purposes only". This seems like a reasonable way to handle such things. It would have been good if Stephenie Meyer had such a disclaimer in the Twilight books concerning her fictional background for the Quileute Indians.

Nagual is available from Frank Holes' website http://www.griswoldmountain.com/dogman.htm. His previous two Dogman novels are also available from Amazon (see the illustrated Amazon links on this page)

I hadn't heard of this series. Sounds like it's better than Twilight.

I presume you read the first Dogman book. What did you think of it? You could review it for your blog and mine.

I enjoyed the first one, and have not read the second one yet. The first one did feature a sort of "Indian burial ground". The Dogman is a sort of regional thing, which explains why you've not heard of it. The books are sort of YA-through-adult horror.

Hmm, I have never heard of this series either. I like that he took the time to have the disclaimer.

Hi you guys, it's me Frank, the author of the three Dogman books. I stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say hi. Thanks for the kind words and I look forward to seeing your book review of my lastest work. It was the most fun of all three books to write, because of the element of fantasy and mystery that really permeate the entire story.

The latest book makes a 'series within a series' with the first book, picking up where the survivors of book 1 learn about the history of the Dogman. Book 2 is sort of a 'stand-alone' folktale, though I think it is the best story of the three (my opinion)

Anyway, you can check my official page and email me at:
