The first problem? When people click on comments in Blogger, they often get a "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the non
secure items?" popup. This is really a problem with Microsoft Internet Explorer, near as I can tell, and has nothing to do with security. It happens because there are profile pictures showing near the comments. I turned this off on mine, as I don't want to bombard readers with unnecessary annoying popup messages.
Here is how to get rid of it:
- Go to the Settings tab, then Comments.
- Scroll down.
- Make sure that the "Show profile images on comments?" is checked No.
- Click on "Save Settings" at the bottom.
This gets rid of the profile pictures, which gets rid of the bogus security warnings.
Next, some of us comment using Blogger accounts, but don't have a Blogger blog anymore, or some of us have many blogs in the blog list that shows in the profile, with no indicator of which is the real or main blog in the list. I've seen long blog lists in profiles where the active one is buried in the list of dead ones. The problem? In situations like this, it is hard to find your blog.
This doesn't apply if you have 5 blogs in your list and all of them are active. But usually when I see someone with 5 blogs in their list, they all have confusing names so you can't tell which is the real active one, and there is only one active one and the others never really started or haven't had posts since 2007.
The solution:
After you log in, click on the little Dashboard thing at the top, toward the right. Then click on "Edit Profile" in the middle on the left. Scroll down and put your full blog address in "Homepage URL". Scroll the rest of the way to the bottom and click "Save Profile".
I have only one blog, and it is at Blogger, so I don't have to do this in order for my blog to be found. But I did add this now, and you will see my blog listed below my profile picture now as a link for "My Web Page".

Good information. I never know how to do anything unless I ask someone. I don't know what the problem was anymore, but when I tried to look in the help menu, it had zero about that problem.
Thanks. I copied the instructions you gave so that I can flip back and forth.
good suggestions.
Good info. I used to get that first message, but now that I use Firefox, it doesn't come up anymore.
thanks!
That first bit was helpful - I wish there were away to make that security warning just go away permanently. Although I kind of hate to lose the little avatars
But the multiple defunct blogs or not indicating the "main" blog in the list is a pet peeve of mine.
Good tips. I saw your post @ truth's blog and have no idea why you can't post a comment, but I think I figured out why you couldn't get my email. Those cute but useless things at the top of my blog are just that.....completely useless. I did add my email to the sidebar to hopefully avoid any confusion.
I've seen many of your comments but never made it here but I'm glad I stopped by. Nice blog.
I haven't had to deal with that Security popup since switching to Firefox. I almost forgot about it.
Thanks! I used to get the top problem ALL the time and never do anymore...you reminded me!!? Maybe that 'thing' got done accidentally because MY tech skills sure weren't responsible!
MrManual...I switched to FireFox, and that could be it, but I think mine had straightened out before FireFox....but that COULD be the solution, folks.
the second is a great thing....it's a pain to try to figure out which blog, and sometimes I just leave when I see the huge list unless I KNOW for sure which is the active one.
Thanks !!
It's a tradeoff, I guess. Firefox, when I use it, keeps bombarding me with "do you want to remember password" popups.
Thanks for the tips!
My biggest problem with some blogs is that they have so many widgets attached to them that they take forever to load. You don't have that problem but a couple of bloggers do.
I also know one with several fake posts at the top, and you have to scroll down a while to find where the real posts start.
Easily I to but I dream the post should have more info then it has.
