TCFF - Movies to See?

Tickets will go on sale soon for the Traverse City Film Festival [TCFF]. I'm wondering what movies to see.

So far, I am considering these movies:

"Men in Black". This has become a favorite movie of mine over the years. I am not sure if I will be able to see the other movies for free, but "Men in Black" will be shown outdoors for no charge.

"The Only Good Indian". The director and the star of it will both be in attendance. It looks like a sort of "end of the Western-era Western": "....Brutally taught to adopt Western tradition, Charlie runs away in an attempt to reclaim his family and heritage. Sam Franklin (Wes Studi), a Native American who conforms to white society by becoming a bounty hunter who hunts his own people, is hired to bring the boy back to the school...."

"Metropolis". This is a grand science fiction movie from the silent-era (1927). I have not seen this for years. There will be a live orchestra, too.

"Dead Snow". Zombies are scary. So are Nazis. So what can be more scary than a movie about Zombie Nazis? I suppose a movie about Zombie Nazis on an airplane, who spit poisonous snakes from their mouths might be scarier, but that's not happening. I am way behind on zombie movies, and "Dead Snow" looks interesting. It's a midnight movie, too.

The entire list of movies is found at this link. [Traverse City Film Festival - Events by Title]. What do you think might be good from this list?

Well... I'm a Men in Black fan. I'd go to that for sure, even though I own it. But I am pulled to Nazi Zombies like a moth to a flame!

Have you ever played Call of Duty Word At War with their Nazi Zombies?
There's nothing like a fox hole!

Metropolis sounds great too. So does the other one. How can you choose?

I am also wondering about seeing "Roger and Me", hosted by Michael Moore. Knowing the one-sided nature of his documentaries, and my only occssional agreement with his political views.

And I've not played any Zombie games, nor seen any Zombie movies in my memory (other than "I Am Legend", which is only sort of a zombie movie, and "Thriller", which most would not count as a movie but everyone has seen).

Dead Snow is supposed to be terrible according to At the Movies.

Roger and Me is decent. GM rakes in the bucks while laying people off. But caring about people's welfare is a liberal issue, so you might not like it.

See The Only Good Indian and tell me what you think of it!

Rob: Michael Moore raked in the bucks from this movie on, and the UAW bosses also raked in the bucks as they encouraged GM to close the factories around Flint. It's not so one-sided as you think.

As for "about people's welfare is a liberal issue", according to recent surveys (including one by Gallup at the beginning of the year, conservatives tend to give more to charities than liberal do)

The old GM boss, Roger Smith, though, is an easy target. He created Saturn to be the vanguard of the "new GM". But it ended up heavily subsidized, and run at a loss, and when push came to shove, it ended its GM era as a liability to be jettisoned earlier this year. He was one of many who just did not run GM that well. To say the least.

I doubt Moore had any idea Roger and Me would be popular when he made it. He did it to send a message, not to rake in the bucks.

Charitable giving is only one measure of concern for people, of course. And many conservative donations go to religious organizations, which means maintaining churches and spreading the gospel.

Yes, Moore might have been surprised at his success. Or he was one of those who worked hard at it and knew it would make him rich someday.

And many charitable donations from both liberals and conservatives go to charities such as United Way, which has millionaires at the top raking in the money donated to United Way to help the poor.

it would be great to see Metropolis with a live orchestra! i don't like zombies or naxis - so i would probably just see Roger & Me and not buy Nikes.

dmarks, did you know Roger Smith owned a home in Benzie County back in the 80's. It was near the Herring Lake area.

Metropolis!!! Amazing movie, want to see that one again. I think I saw the version with Prince music. Weird. Would like to see the original, but live orchestra would be awesome!
