There was a strong and cold north wind this morning on West Grand Traverse Bay. It got as low as 48 degrees earlier in the morning. I saw the ship
T/S State of Michigan slowly turning circles out on the water.

As I wanted, a zodiac boat came from the ship and docked. Several
Great Lakes Maritime Academy students left the zodiac, carring luggage and trashbags. I am guessing that they were on a training cruise overnight.

The morning sun shown brightly on the maritime academy dock, lighting up the water from the waves that had crashed upon the sidewalk. I figured that this photo would look a little better in black-and-white

I also saw a
cormorant flying low over the water. I didn't think these lived in the area.

What beautiful shots Dmarks. The black and white is definitely my favorite...very striking.
Wow. Great photos! You live in such a beautiful place. The clouds in the first one are really something and your black and white... awesome.
Clouds were great this morning, and I love your black-and-white shot. As for cormorants, they've been on the increase in recent years. Someone probably has an explanation, but I remember the first time I saw them on the Boardman River in downtown Traverse City and went "Huh?"
PJ: I remember when the cormorants were rare, and declared endangered. Then the population exploded. There have been incidents of people supposedly connected to the commercial fishing industry going into cormorant rookeries and killing birds and destroying eggs.
Ananda and Laura: Thanks!
So beautiful and atmospheric, more photos of your part of the world please!
The B&W's are very fine, though I'm smitten with nostalgia for the time I lived on Little Traverse Bay and walked the jetty there. I live and work in beautiful mountains now so its some consolation but my favorite scapes are seascapes. I must have a nautical gene or two floating in my DNA.
I really love that black and white shot too. Nice job.
