Early in the episode, there were scenes of the giant ships positioning themselves over city centers. Much like the Vogons in "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy", or better yet, the mother ships in "Independence Day" (ID4). In fact, I made the comment out loud to the effect that if this show reflected reality, they'd have characters commenting about how this was just like ID4. Sure enough, someone did that within a minute of my comment.I thought it was supposed to be a while before we found out that the Visitors were evil lizards, but they did reveal this in the opening episode. Juliet from "Lost" played a sort of FBI agent. I do not know the character's name, and will likely think of her as Juliet from "Lost". Scott Wolf plays a media guy in the show. I hadn't noticed before how much he resembles Michael J. Fox, and the role in "V" is actually typical of the media/PR guy roles Fox played in "Spin City" and a few movies.Did anyone else see this new show?

I liked it except for ALL the long commercial interruptions. But I guess they have to pay for the effects and the extras.
I kept yelling "It's a cookbook" until people told me to shut up.
Jan, thanks for visiting and commenting. Having not seen the previous "V", I can only guess that the cookbook reference related to this previous post of mine. (The Kanamit discussion)
It is too bad that you didn't see the first V. And the first V did look like Independence Day, except that the first V was before Independence Day, so maybe it is more accurate to say that Independence Day looks like the first V.
Not that you can have someone say that' looks just like the first V in the remake.
And I'm sure that the first V looks like something that came before that.
And I did like the first episode, though it did have a lot going on. I guess they just figured we already knew from watching the first V, and they had to get all of that in, plus the stuff about some of them already being here.
I could have watched the first "V" again, as it was aired this past weekend. As for when it first started, I must have seen some of it, but surely not most of it.
Yeah, as for too much going on, it did seem like the type of thing that might typically be a 2-hour pilot. I've seen 2-hour pilots with a lot less going on than this 1-hour pilot.
And thank you for your visit and comments, too.
I saw some of the original one, but haven't been too interested in seeing this version.
Watched the originals on Sunday (and when I was 9), and the premier on Tuesday (and interestingly ID4 last night).
The original had the Star Wars Trilogy going for it, which is why I was interested then (the show premiered between Empire and Jedi). It held up even all these years later, even with the chunky and ponderous plot.
As for the reboot, it was pretty good. Don't know if it will keep me watching, but it was good enough to justify watching next week. It may be a show that you have to watch a lot to get hooked.
Just watched it on my TiVo. I agree it was good but not great. I'll keep watching it for now.
I watched the old V series when it aired. I don't remember much about it, but I think it was better than this version. It was one of the first serials to throw a handful of random characters together (a la Lost) and follow their progress.
Do you know how the old V revealed the lizards? It was much better than this show's revelation. I suspect anyone who saw it will remember it. Should I tell y'all how it happened?
I guess this show's premise is the same as the previous show's premise: that lizards are wearing disguises that make them indistinguishable from humans. Somehow it seemed less plausible this time. The impostors have skin an inch thick...so they must be saurian scarecrows. When we eventually see a lizard, will he look like a spindly stick figure?
P.S. Do you ever watch old shows on DVDs from the library or video store? Most are available these days, you know.
I suppose there's Netflix, but the library, last time I checked, only carries a few non-commercial DVDs, and the video store only has recent items.
FYI, I did see the original V miniseries at Wal-Mart the other day. For $10. So it's out there and pretty cheap.
