"Avatar" North American Premiere

Thank you Michael Moore and James Cameron.

I had to get in line pretty early to get a ticket earlier tonight (as the movie had quickly sold out the day before), but I did manage to get into the State Theatre in downtown Traverse City, Michigan for the first (only) North American premiere of James Cameron's "Avatar" (or maybe the Hollywood premiere was first?). I stood in line next to a woman with an Australian accent who went to school with the main star, Sam Worthington. It's very late at night, and I could write more, but I will say that this movie is the best thing I have seen in a long time, and it probably comes close to living up to Roger Ebert's extremely glowing review in which he said it was a game-changer like "Star Wars".

Watch the video below. James Cameron's now way cool in my book.

I'll write more later.

Oh. I really want to see that. I'm so glad it lives up to the hype.

Great! Something worth watching at long last. And what fun for you to be able to go.

You Traverse City folks are going to be getting pretty posh with all the show biz types running around :-)

That is not exactly my sort of movie, but it does appear to be extremely visually stunning.

I'm looking forward to this one, but knowing how I roll, it will probably be a couple weeks before I get to it.

I am so under a rock. I had no idea what Avatar was. I work right in downtown TC and walked right by the State on my way to Serenity Tea for lunch the first day Avatar was showing!

I hope TC doesn't get too posh! I just moved here from the posh egotistical city and I am done with that. I prefer the forests and Lake Michigan! The ego and posh city life can stay south of Clare! ;)

I've been a fan of Cameron's prior science fiction work, but I'm not loving those weird Na'vi. Seeing them reminds me of the feeling I got when I first saw Jar Jar Binks. Blech.

Saw it on an IMAX 3d... Loved it! Consider it in my top all-time movie experiences, which shocked my wife, knowing how far right I am. Hidden messages and over the top characters, yes, but it was a great ride.
