"Breath of Heaven" (Christmas Music)

I'll probably be doing Christmas music related posts through Friday.

This one is "Breath of Heaven", which comes to mind as the best Christmas song of the modern era (modern era being the last 20 years or so). It tells the story of the Nativity from Mary's point of view. I've never understood the Catholic fixation on Mary, and it seems Protestants hardly mention her.

What are my readers' favorite "serious" or religious Christmas songs?

I am not a particularly religious person, but I LOVE hearing Handel's Messiah...the Hallelujah Chorus is so powerful and beautiful.

That's lovely. I'm not religious either, but there are several religious songs on the Kingston Trio's album that are really beautiful amd never heard on the radio: "Bye Bye Thou Little Tiny Child." "Follow Now, Oh Shepherds," and, "Sing We Noel."

I have thought a lot about this question throughout the day. I believe What Child is This is my favorite. I also really like the one Ananda had on her post, Mary Did You Know?

Have a wonderful Christmas and thank you for being wonderful to my friend.

There are many nice ones, but I like "Oh Holy Night" the best.

so many good Christmas Hymns out there...this years favorite in my family is We Three Kings of Orient. As a matter of fact my nine year old son has memorized it and has been singing it through out the last few weeks.
