Locke vs Barack, Round 1

I heard today that the premiere of the final season of ABC-TV's "LOST" has caused the White House to move President Obama's "State of the Union" address. I guess they didn't want the outrage like when a Barack speech wiped out Charlie Brown this past Christmas season.President Obama should probably thank Locke and crew. It's probably a good idea that Obama doesn't do a speech on Groundhog Day, as to avoid the endless jokes about whether or not he will see his shadow.

And Lost fans, go ahead and click on the article [here], and tell me if that isn't the best picture of Sawyer. He looks pretty haggard, like he's about 55 in the picture, and I think he's really only 41 or so.

For more about Sawyer and Locke, watch the video below:

Addendum: Also, do all 4 or 5 networks really need to show prime time Presidential speeches? I'm pretty sure that the percentage of American households without cable or or without a decent broadcast lineup of at least 3 networks has to be extremely low. So, if one or two networks don't show it, everyone (I think) will still be able to see it, if they want. So what is wrong with one or two networks showing regular programming on that night?

Funny! I agree... Obama has enough trouble these days.

He also avoids the perils of Groundhutt Day, also.

Dmarks: I'm with you on only have 1 or 2 networks airing it. Or maybe a designated channel. There is nothing worse than EVERY single channel airing the President--regardless of WHO the President is. Besides, FOX or MSNBC will show it over and over. It's not like you won't get a chance to see it.

I'm not a fan of Lost. Probably because I got in too late and was TOTALLY LOST. Do you suggest I rent the seasons from Netflix? Is the show worth it?

well, of course, I see nothing wrong in NO NETWORKS (or cable) showing Obama's speeches, but that's just me, I guess :-)

I've never seen these TV shows, but I will say if I never saw Obama's face again on TV it would be way too soon!!!
Happy New Year, dMarks. xx

Yes, I recommend that. I've quite enjoyed the show. I missed the first season (and part of the 2nd, I think) and caught up to speed by renting them myself.

They could just record Obama's speech, edit out all the meaningless crap he says, and air the remaining 30 seconds in a commercial break. It would save me time (and obscenities) watching the hour of repetition.

I think having all the major networks show the President is for ratings-or at least making things even. The majority of tv viewers are going to be tuning into hear the President (even if they don't support him) so any network that isn't showing the President will suffer ratings.

I must confess I have never watched "Lost" but may have to watch the final show in full appreciation of the Obama administration acknowledging that there is indeed at TV nation.

I've never seen Lost. I don't think all the stations need to broadcast the president's speech either. Overkill.

Considering the ongoing boxoffice receipts of the past four weeks, they could get record ratings for Obama's address if James Cameron assisted to help Obama deliver the speech in the form of a Na'vi avatar.

I haven't seen any Obama speeches on Canadian T.V.. Then again I could be mistaken, either way I would find something else to do..

I starting watching Lost too late and got lost myself. Had I known it would be good, I would've been there from the start.

One of these days, I will catch up via Netflix.

RE: Obama's SOTU speech... well, I don't watch any of his speeches anyway, so it doesn't affect me either way. I'll watch something on cable.

I wonder what it would be like living in a nation...or a time...when viewing an important address by the President would be so important to the people that there would be no question of its priority above other programming. I guess it's because the world is in such a great place now, natural disasters and ecological concerns put to rest...all countries prospering and the peoples at peace, that we feel we can afford to downplay and denigrate a State of the Union address.

Re: LOST, I love the show and will miss it but I think the producers are brilliant for ending it. And yes that shot of Sawyer is rather alarming! But for me the most attractive guy in the cast has always been Locke. It drives my husband crazy that I'd find a "bald man" hot. The man just has something about him...

Lydia, I remember watching the State of the Union every single year, years ago. If you did not watch it live, you missed it. That was it.

Now I can watch it again at leisure, and read it too. The modern media situation has removed the immediate importance of the address.

The weirdest Locke shot is always the one with the orange grin.
