From the "Sermon on the Mount" department:Mistakes happen, typos happen. But I do have to wonder when they happen over and over. I've been hearing on the radio lately an announcement about an event at East Bay Cavalry Church. That's cavalry, as in soldiers on horseback. Not Calvary, as in the hill where the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified. You'd think they might have corrected it after the first time, but no. I've heard it many times.
This web page seems to have it straight. Surely this one will stirrup some comments and spur some of you to hitch some comments to this post.

hello dmark! :) thx so much for commenting on my blog. i guess adsense didnt help us much. lol! interesting articles btw. :)
I like the idea of horses in church though. A lot. Maybe you could get something started...or show up to Calvary Church with your horse and insist on being let in.
that's so funny - i was just wondering about the 2 words in those exact usages today! amen and pass the oats!
And reminding Mr. Ed not to talk during silent prayer.
Dmark,I enjoyed going to the link you provided,Thank you my friend.
Cavalry church? As in parishioners on horseback?
MrManual: Exactly. Probably rather popular on the plains of Rohan.
Crazy: Haha. And it's always impressive to see the horses kneeling at the communion rail so their riders can reach the Bread and Wine.
Well, there are cowboy churches, so why not a cavalry church.
As it happens, my mother goes to a Calvary Baptist Church, and I have never seen or heard of anyone showing up with horses by mistake.
And if you live in Canada, you would have Calgary to add to the confusion.
All well and good, I suppose, for equestrian Episcopalians as well as cavalry Baptists, and the Calgary Baptists whether or not they are in California or Gary, Indiana.
The painting, by the way, is an old one of the Texas cavalry, and everyone should know by now the Navi cavalry from "Avatar". These are not to be confused with the Navy cavalry, unless they are playing some form of combat water polo
And I forgot to let the Catholics ride in with references to the Church of St. Thomas Equinus.
And the choir joins in singing the corral....
Funny. It's weird they didn't catch it.
LOL! At my friend's church they have the "Blessing of the Animals" once a year... and yep, you can bring a horse, a rabbit, a snake. I have seen goats, chickens, dogs and very angry looking cats. I look forward to it every year.
Interesting post...Cavalry Church, I suppose "Onward Christian Soldiers" is a popular hymn along with the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Isn't it ironic that you can bring your (insert name of animal here) to church to be blessed, and then following the service sit down with your pastor to a meal of dead pig, dead birds, dead cows?
Blessings only available for the chosen few?
How Republican.
Sat: Whatever the merits of meat eating vs vegatarianism, eating meat is surely a bipartisan or non-partisan matter not limited to Republicans.
Great one, dmarks. I won't ask what station but do wonder if a station announcer was making the mistake or if it was a canned announcement. I'm guessing station. More than one person? Obviously, whoever made the gaff doesn't go to the church.
It was a canned announcement.
Ah, Dmarks.. the Republicanism I was referring to wasn't in eating meat per se, but in this:
Blessings only available for the chosen few?.
Sat: Ask the one with the angry cats :)
giggle
I agree with Leo. Those Christian soldiers have to ride on in something. Surely some are members of a Christian cavalry.
