"Hello. I'm Johnny Cash..."I heard on the Ron Jolly Radio Program this morning that they have found a rare all-black King Penguin, a "one in a zillion" mutation. He said that the penguin was more like Johnny Cash than any other penguin in the world, due to its ebony attire. One blog or website called him "Darth Wader". Click here for one article on the big black bird.
I've never seen anything like this, but I do recall visiting Belle Isle in Detroit one winter, and being surprised that it was swarming with all-white deer. I was surprised to find wild deer all over and island in Detroit, and I've seen many many deer, but not white ones.
To the left is a 100 year old postcard of Bell Isle. I have many postcards of Detroit and Belle Isle from the old days. Click on it to see it in larger detail. There are no deer in the postcard. I have yet to see a postcard of Belle Isle deer.

What a wonderful post. I read every word with fascination!
Happy PFF!
Really enjoyed reading about "Darth Wader" (cute name). And the white deer...there was a family of white deer up at my dad's in northern Wisconsin.
& a lovely postcard of Belle Isle..what a relaxing view of those enjoying the water in canoes.
Blessings & Aloha!
(I have followed all the Postcard Friendship Friday posts previously, but my first time joining in on PFF :o)
Love the parasols and colouring on the Belle Isle card. How interesting a Johnny Cash penguin, I wonder if that is better on the ice cap than white and black.
That penguin looks pretty bad-a$$. It will be interesting to see if any more like it show up.
It looks like a traffic jam on the water.
Darth Wader...that's too good. I love the postcard of all the people in the boats. It makes me wonder if people were more attuned to relaxation and social recreation than we are today.
It was obviously a fashionable thing to do, to take a canoe out on the water. Lovely card!
What a unique post, so much info, Happy PFF.
That is really very cool.
I approve of all black attire.
I saw that article too and wondered why they choose to refer to Johnny Cash. It makes sense, but it seems a bit dated. I actually prefer Darth Wader!
Love the Johnny Cash penguin and would love to see pictures of the white deer.
Fascinating information you added to the great p.cards.
God Bless,
julie
interesting about the black penguin, I do wonder if there will be more? Belle Ilse looks like it was the place to be at the turn of the century... 1900! Wonder what the kids today would say if they were told the activity today would be canoeing? PFF thanks for sharing.
Belle Isle was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed New York's Central Park.
