Happy Birthday, William Shatner

On this day in 1931, Shat first happened. In Quebec, not Iowa. Since then, he's become famous for a Grammy-award-winning album, "T. J. Hooker", "Twilight Zone", and a certain TV series. To the right, you can see him as he looks now. Below, you can see Shatner as TV makeup artists in 1967 guessed that he might look now.

Happy birthday to Bill... happy birthday to Bill... happy birthday dearrrrr Billlll... etc.

I still get a great kick out of seeing him in anything, even commercials.

One of these days, you should come to Iowa for Trek Fest. It's a hoot and they have a whole shrine to The Shat.

That's T.J. Hooker, to you.

The Shat rules. I think I'll make an unnecessary hotel reservation via Priceline today in his honor.

There is something very endearing about Shatner.
He's put on some lbs., but he looks fabulous.

The old boy still looks good and has energy to spare!

I loves me the Shat man. Long may he reign as the penultimate TV icon.

BTW good on you for getting the correct date. Some sources give Shatner's birthday as 3/23 and that's not correct.

The only reason I care about this is that my sister's birthday is 3/23 and I always teased her about sharing a birthday with Karl Malden. No way someone could
tease their little sister with sharing Captain Kirk's birthday.

Looks like they didn't account for all the weight gain. He looks much better than predicted.

Shatner was very good looking in his earlier years, even before Star Trek. I've seen him in a couple of Twilight Zone episodes.

Dawn: The make up people in the 1960's didn't account for botox and plastic surgery either.

It's funny, just this week I came very close to buying his album. I actually love his stuff. He has such a great take on stuff.

Whenever they "age" people on TV, they usually do it wrong. They overdo the crinkles and wrinkles and underdo the saggy, jowly puffiness. Many people don't get webs of wrinkles until their 80s or 90s, but their faces start sagging in their 50s or 60s.

This approach is understandable because it's easier to do wrinkles than jowls. But it always looks artificial to me. You have to tell yourself, "This is TV's lame version of what happens to people when they get old."

Hahah! I have a lot of memories of him on TV, from Star Trek to T. J. Hooker. The latter was a regular diet when I was a teenager.
