Stow-on-the-Wold

I'm slowly going through my parents' huge photo albums from their trips to Europe, including several trips to England. One thing I found was this "J. Arthur Dixon Ltd" postcard of "Stow-on-the-Wold". I'd never heard of this place before. To me, it sounds like it might be more of a name for a disease or recipe than of a town (I brace for the indignation from people who love this place or live in it and will find this blog post).
It's located in the middle of England. I used to be more of an Anglophile than I am now, and England is not the highest on the list of places I want to see someday. I suppose the first place in England I remember wanting to see was not technically in England, but in Wales. Wales was featured in the childrens' book "Time and Mr. Bass", part of the Mushroom Planet book series. I might have read about the British isles before this, but that is one I remember.

Has anyone read those Mushroom Planet books, or heard of this town?

I haven't heard of either, sadly. But I'd love to visit Whales and England, but mostly Ireland.

England is actually at the top of my list of places I want to go. It is the soccer(football) fan in me.

Love, love, love Mr. Bass and the mushroom planet books! Egg yolks, remember? Be sure to look for editions with illustrations, as they are half the charm of the stories.

If I know if you have not already been there?

I used to wander in the small villages in England.
