I heard on the radio that Meinhardt Raabe, the Munchkin Coroner from "The Wizard of Oz" has died. He as 94.
lI can't help but think of his most famous line:
"Not only is she clearly dead.
She's really most sincerely dead."
I considered him the last living "star" of that old 1939 movie, as he played one of the characters people remembered. I met him at a convention years ago, and I'm sure I have something signed by him somewhere around here. One thing I remembered about him was that he was kind of pushy in moving through crowds. I don't blame him at all, since he was so short that he'd end up going nowhere otherwise.
He had also visited northwestern Lower Michigan at times, to drive the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile [click here for my previous blog post about it], and also for an interview on the Norm Jones Radio Program

The very first thought to come to mind after reading this was: "That poor guy. He'll get virtually no applause during the tacky death reel at next year's Oscars." And that's if they even remember to include him.
At lest he lived a long life. Time to find that autograph.
Wow, I'm so impressed -- hearing his name on the radio, I wouldn't have known who he was. Meinhardt, rest in peace.
Meinhard,rest in peace.
Someone wrote about that on Facebook. I was surprised there was anyone still alive from the Wizard of Oz.
I have to agree with Churlita!
He was very young when he was in the 1939 movie. I think that's one reason he was around so long.
Judy Garland was of course young too.
Is any member of that cast still alive?
Wow!!! That is a shocker that someone was still alive. Hmmmm Jill, good question!
Funny, as you were telling us who he was... I could hear him saying that line in my head. It's my second favorite Wizard of Oz quote... the most being "and your little dog too!" a phrase that comes in very handy in a variety of situations.
I think it is surprisign that he lived so very long. Generally small people have more health issues.
