I recently ran across this old brochure from the "Grand Traverse Pavilions Renaissance Fair". I think it is about 10 or so years old. They did not put a date on it. I think it was the only renaissance fair or anything like that in the area, other than the one in Interlochen that I never saw, for years. I know they have huge ones in the South, and I think of that King of the Hill episode now. I'll have to see if there is another later on in the summer. Gotta get those turkey drumsticks and corn on the cob.

One couple I've met, friends of friends, used to organize renaissance fairs all over the place but no longer do any at all. Lost their market. Did something else take their place?
I'd not heard that they had died out. I think the big ones in the south like Scarborough Faire in the Dallas area are still going strong.
There is still a big one near Holly downstate, too.
There was a great one in Sausalito, Ca for years. I've been to that one and it was a lot of fun. I learned how to use a drop spindle to spin my own yarn for weaving. I don't know if it is still going on, but there was an episode of Mythbusters where they went to one in Tulare, Ca to see if an archer can really split an arrow with another arrow.
I've never been to a Ren Fair before. It likes I may have missed my chance.
I think I've been to one of these. I was much younger, but from what I remember it was nice.
There is a big Renaissance Pleasure Faire each year right near where I live. I went a few times when I was younger and it is fun, but gets kind of expensive.
Ananda: I think I saw an archer split an arrow with another by accident in school.
Churlita: There's a big one in Des Moines.
Bright: Hi. Welcome to the blog.
Laura: Calling it a pleasure faire surely must increase attendance?
Yeah, they are big down here. I have a buddy completely into it and he travels the country selling his wares. Here is a link to his site. You and your peeps might find some of his syuff pretty interesting.
