Below, Brian Froud (left), his wife Wendy Froud (center) and a fan stand near a table covered with books by the couple. All of the books related to faeries, goblins and the movies "The Dark Crystal" and "The Labyrinth".

I brought a couple of books to sign, and bought a new one.I found out what I had suspected: the "Hedley Kow" from the book "Faeries", which was the mascot of my high school graduating class, was actually drawn by Alan Lee, and not Brian Froud. Brian said that Alan Lee is busy at work on the new movie "The Hobbit" in New Zealand. As for Brian, along with the book projects, he has been doing some work on the Dark Crystal sequel. That project is moving slowly: he told me that there has been no filming start date set yet.

Looks like Horizon Books. Yea for independents!
Very cool to get to meet someone who's work you admire so much!
Timing was very bad, and I just made it there to see them. If I'd have had time, I would have gone to the FYE store and picked up the Skeksis Chamberlain and gone to the bookstore and had Brian sign the action figure.
I did drop by the FYE later anyway, after the Frouds had gone, and the Chamberlains weren't at the store anymore. Still, that would have been cool if I had been able to do that.
Hmmmmmmmm.......
What a wonderful treat that must have been! Both the Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal are favorites of mine. We used to like to pretend to be Skexies... however it is spelled... when my kids were little.
All that fun raising and lowering of voice. Very cool beans.
If I recall correctly, the Skeksis Chamberlain voice was Frank Oz (Yoda and Miss Piggy!) at the full height of his vocal talents.
I love "The Dark Crystal", "Labyrinth" never made into into my list of all-time favorites.
I had a chance to talk with Brian Froud about how he came up with the idea for the story for "Labyrinth".
I used to do cool stuff like that. Glad you got to go talk to them.
We don't get too many opportunities like this, but I think the Frouds were at a nearby city 10 or so years ago.
Alan Lee did a lot of the calendars for the Lord of the Rings years before the movies. He was utilised by Peter Jackson for the set designs and the look and feel.
I have seen 'Faeries' around but have never looked at it.
Strangely enough, I have not seen 'The Dark Crystal' after all these decades.
