Going through stacks of old papers, I found this very old old Michelin tires advertisement (large version to the right, closeup below). It features a rather creepy looking version of "Bibendum". Yes that is the Michelin Man's name. A far cry from today's cuddly CGI version which looks more like a white Ninja Turtle than the man-maggot of yore.
It reminded me of the white tire monster I found in actual horror art to use in my older "Weird Tires" post.
Also check out this "Michelin Man vs Stay Puft" post in another blog.

ha! Great links to your other stuff and that rather awesome commercial. His new CGI self is VERY Stay-puft looking, which is weird, but his old sort of mummy-ish looking self is also weird. Where is the black rubbery aspect of this guy?
Truly terrifying! I'm glad you share the same fear of scary ol' Bibendum. (which lets be honest, the name alone sounds like something that would guard the gates of hell, no?)
Thanks for the shout out to my post btw!
Laura: Somehow he looks creepier in white than he might in black.
Hawk: Replace a 3 headed Cerberus at the gates with a 3 headed Bibendum!
Most interesting. Of course, I wiki-ed and got the whole story
and as one would suspect,
Mr. Bibendum was gray as the original tire, carbon being added somewhat later
in the evolution of that product. Off to find the history of the Pillsbury
doughboy...
Wow, he looks drunk!
lol! We call him the Michelin Maggot at our house.
