I decided to take a poll on the political views of my readers. You will see it on the right. Sorry for that placement decision, all you leftists. It's how the blog layout is.
I think I have pretty much covered it for everyone. I hope so, anyway. Go ahead and vote!

The ballot menu does not offer a choice I can make.
You know... I was figuring you might be the exception!
ya, and there is no "Birthday Party" or "Beer Party"....how can I truly wrap my head around a pole without those two. (see, the last time I wrapped my head around a pole, it was a combined party event, A Birthday Beer Party!)
I always vote Democratic, but I don't think that begins to capture how very liberal I am - it's just the closer choice for me.
You Forgot Independent and Socialist. There is a Socialist that Visits my Blog on Occasion.
I wounder whether or not bloggers are disproportionately liberal?
It seems that most of my readers and most of those I read are Democrats.
I'm about as far left as you can get. I'm not sure I'm on there either.
Bright: I seem to myself find that there's a disproportionally large number of Libertarians around.
I consider myself a fiscal conservative, but consider some
libertarian and tea party principles to be noteworthy.
Basically, the government is too darn big and way too intrusive in our lives.
Closed already?
I have a theory. It's a working theory and I just came up with it while reading this article.
People who "do": typically conservative or libertarian; wants less government intrusion; expects people to provide for themselves if able. These are people who work at building something tangible; active
People who "don't": typically liberal/progressive/socialist. They could be perpetual students (ie, people who have never produced anything tangible but learn learn learn then teach teach teach), or managers of things or writers... basically nothing physical goes on in their producing of things. They don't make widgets; they write about them.
I think a lot of bloggers are in the liberal category because it's a passive activity. Sitting, writing, thinking. They're not busy doing, so their mind is free to actually think about things more.
"back in the day" when people had to spend all their time cooking, cleaning, raising kids, working, producing, hunting, building an actual house, walking, plowing, gardening, etc... they had no time to think about what other people were doing wrong. What other people had. How other people's resources /should/ be used. They were too busy doing.
As humans do less, they worry about those things more.
Anyway, those are my impromptu thoughts. I've probably offended someone along the way; not my intent.
In my opinion, Whall's theory of liberals as non-doers and conservatives as doers is outrageously condescending and absurd. I'm a liberal. I blog. But a cursory glance at my blog shows that it is all about the things I do.
Secret's right. I've seen many such generalizations i.e. liberals have no work ethic, conservatives are brain-damaged, etc that just do not hold up. There's a lot less difference than you would think.
The poll is closed already, darn. Well I lean more liberal, socialist, progressive, radical women of color, union blue collar roots, outcast, rabble-rouser, etc. ;)
