I've never been to Columbus, and actually only know it from old postcards.
The view below is from the 1940s. The Neil House, a hotel, was demolished in the 1970s, but the tower (now known as just the La Veque Tower) still survives.
This view from the early 1970s shows the Lazarus Department Store in downtown Columbus. It makes me think of the Winfred-Louder department store from downtown Cleveland (as per the Drew Carey Show). While Winfred-Louder died and was replaced with "The Never Ending Store", Lazarus abandoned this downtown store and was absorbed by Macy's.

Columbus, Ohio, where my father grew up and his parents lived until I was 12, has a lot of memories for me, dmarks, so thanks for these images. My Aunt Symie worked at Lazarus Department Store for many years.
I wonder—have you ever been to Columbus, Indiana? It is worth a trip, the whole town a museum of world architecture.
But for me, today is most important as my mother’s birthday. Columbus, take a backseat! (No offense, dmarks.)
PJ: I almost considered doing something about Columbus, Indiana.. .but in the end decided to just do 3 from Ohio. I have a friend who worked in Columbus, Indiana at one time and told me about it. But I have never been to it.
Personally, I find Columbus to be a pretty bad historic figure and not a role model or hero at all. I'd rather celebrate your mother's birthday instead!
I always enjoy seeing your postcards! The images are often so evocative of such particular times and places (which, duh, is what a postcard is meant to be.)
Your post cards always fascinate me. I have never been to Columbus, Ohio.
Old buildings have such character. I wish they didn't all go the way of time. A capital building without a dome? Too funny!
It looks undone to me.
It looks undone to me too. Maybe he was afraid he was going over budget?
I choose Effigy.
Never been there, but from the photos, seems pleasant enough.
Curious...do you ever get material
from the penny post card website?
Drivers in Columbus, Ohio are terrible, but they have an awesome science museum there, which is why we went last summer.
I was born and lived in Columbus until 2003 when I married and moved to TX. Your postcards embrace so many memories as I worked downtown and was in Lazarus several times a week in the late 60s and early 70s. Lived in Woolworths and other stores up and down S High St. And a side note ~ drivers in Columbus aren't any worse or even as bad as in other parts of the country. Come to TX and watch how crazy drivers can really be !! lol Columbus drivers are mild compared to these folks :) Thanks for sharing these postcards and putting a smile in my heart :) I love my hometown. God bless you and God bless America ~Carol
