Sleestak Sunday - The Hissing of Summer Lawns

Sleestak Hissing of Summer Lawns
Today's Sleestak Sundays entry is a takeoff on Joni Mitchell's album cover "The Hissing of Summer Lawns"I don't know much about Joni Mitchell, but I have some friends who are really into her music. I do off the top of my head remember such songs as "Help Me" and "Big Yellow Taxi".

Here is a youtube video of her song "River":

"I wish I had a river I could skate away on...."

The postcard view below is of ice skating on a frozen river in Japan.

Love that Joni Mitchell song, "River"! Another one from the same album is "Blue," which begins, "Songs are like tattoos, you know/I've been to sea before/Crown and anchor me/and let me sail away." Her music and lyrics are purely original.

"Court and Spark", "Blue", "Hejira", "For the Roses", "Clouds", "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter", "Ladies of the Canyon", "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" - there arrr too many great albums to mention.......Actually, "The Hissing of Summer Lawns" was voted worst album of the year by Rolling Stone in 1975 and now it's considered a classic. So much for THOSE critics.

kind of ironic when Rolling Stone comes across as stuffy and "establishment", which they do more and more as the years roll by.

It is inevitably converging on the status of "Saturday Evening Post", which is aimed at 80-year-olds.

I wish I had a river to skate on as well, but that will never happen here in Arkansas, it just doesn't get that cold, what a bummer!

Ha! Sleestaks and Joni aren't two things I expect to see together.

I like Joni Mitchell and "Blue" is one of my favorites of hers. But she did a ton of music that I like very much.

Leticia: But at least in Arkansas, you can hunt for diamonds in a giant mud pit, can't you?

I really liked the album "Mingus", too (her tribute to the then dying jazz great, Charles Mingus). Yes, it was flawed but I'll take a flawed record from Joni Mitchell over a "masterpiece" from Madonna anyday.

Not a huge Joni Mitchell Fan, but I do like "Big Yellow Taxi." I liked the Counting Crows cover of it, too.

My sis is a staunch Democrat, even though she parties and calls me QUEER for going to church. Go figure. Scary what the stanky BO thinks that sinfull mortal can become - we're all gonna croak, puppet BO controlled by the billionaire, fat-cats-who-think-they-can-outsmart-Jesus. If he gits another term, fulla outsourcing our jobs, whorizontal abortion like babies are subhuman, outNout homosexuality, open-borders with white-trash-TexMex's, and 'posse comitatus' with FEMA, I think we've completely lost, brudda. I went to church today to try to curb the rage, but there's lil we can do when God's outta-the-picture in BOs immature atheism. God, help U.S. Help those poor, mortal souls on earth who wanna Wiseabove.blogspot and go beyond to Heaven. Thanx for lissen'n, brudda. God blessa youse -Fr.
