Iron Lantern - Best Comic Ever

The comic companies, DC and Marvel, are like superpowers. Cold war superpowers. Think US and USSR. Like the US and USSR, they occasionally have had "detente". This in the form of characters from each company appearing together. This has included Superman meets Spiderman, Batman meets Hulk, and other efforts.

Far and away the most interesting of these examples of comic book detente were the Amalgam comics. Instead of having characters from two different companies meet each other, they merged the characters into one.

My favorite comic book characters have long been Marvel's Iron Man and DC's Green Lantern. When Amalgan was made in 1997. they combined the two into one character, Iron Lantern.

The Iron Lantern name appears elsewhere, particularly in this restaurant in Vermont. No posrcards of this exist, but there is a postcard of a Green Lantern Restaurant.

I never saw an issue of Iron Lantern.
But what a great idea!

I think there was only one issue.

That would be an interesting read.

My favorite heroes or heroine are Rogue, from the cartoons, not the loser character from the movies. And I absolutely love Gambit and Wolverine.

I remember Rogue well, when she was first introduced and all.

Wolverine is great, of course.

Gambit was after my time. I never quite got him. "Yeah, guy who throws exploding playing cards. They must have scraped the bottom of the barrell for superpowers. Next, a guy who throws marbles".

But I understand he is a fan favorite.

dmarks, Gambit possesses the ability to manipulate kinetic energy. He is also skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a Bō staff. He's awesome!

Iron Lantern must have been quite a dynamic character, judging from the cover illustration.

On another topic, dmarks, what do you think about Traverse City getting rid of the train at Clinch Park? Are you going to do a post on that? I tried to e-mail you, but my message came back marked 'undeliverable,' so please forgive me for sending it as part of a comment.

PJ: It is all part of a long term plan to destroy Clinch Park. I suppose the Con Foster museum is next.

dmarks, are you interpretating or reporting with this statement? Why would Traverse City want to destroy Clinch Park?

dmarks said...

Interpreting, then. I've looked at the history of it, and see the park's amenities being removed one by one. The zoo, various historic artificats on the grounds, the miniature city, now the train.

Always been partial to Marvel; Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Captain America, Spiderman (of course), Conan, Submariner, Daredevil, and, yes, for my money, Silver Surfer, too!
