This postcard is from 1904 to 1918. There's no writing or date on the back, but there is "AZO" in the stamp box, and a cryptic array of four triangles pointing up. Which, according to
Playle, indicates 1904 to 1918.
Some of the photo might be cut off on your screen:
Fountain City is in the west of Central Wisconsin, in the "Hiawatha Valley" on the Mississippi River across from Minnesota. It's also in the southern tip of Wisconsin's "Indian Head country". Stephen King's book
Black House, which took place nearby, called the city just "Fountain".
I've featured Fountain City a few times before.
Click here to see some other posts. This postcard is 100 years old, give or take a couple of years. Fountain City, the last time I was there. looked much the same now, but with many of the old wooden buildings gone.

I have roots and family in the
Eau Claire area, so on visits we
often pass through up (or down)
the Mississipi valley...and Fountain City. Familiar with
the Laura Ingalls Wilder place and Frontenac on the MN side, but have
never been to this place ...
..must make a note of that..
I was looking at the Golden Frog pages just a few minutes ago.
If you look really closely, you can actually see the people clinging to their guns and religion.
Haha. But not so much. The city is located in a valley between two "blue states".
States which can get quite incensed over the Packers vs Vikings feud more than anything.
I always appreciate proof that Wisconsin and other places are real. I've never had a chance to travel, so I rely on the photographic evidence that there is life outside of my realm.
What an interesting little city! Shame about the old wooden structures being gone, but that is what happens. This one looks like it has a lot of great history.
Black House is one of my favorite Stephen King books and a continuation of The Talisman. But then, part of the fun of Stephen King is how he connects most of his books to each other. A main character in this book is a minor character in that book. In one the character is good, in another, perhaps not. Lots of fun stuffs!
I've done some blog posts on the actual town that is the model for French Landing in Black House: Trempealeau.
The giant 6 pack is not in French Landing, but is downriver in La Crosse.
I also once drove around the area to see the specific locations and streets from the book. The actual location of the house in the book is not in a woods, but is a big field with a view for miles.
Have you read Stephen King's latest book, 11/22/63? It's a masterpiece, IMO.
Yes AOW that was a great book.
Dmarks,
I think that Stephen King's latest book is the best novel he has written since the dreadful accident he had about 10 years ago.
His son, Joe Hill, is a good writer, too. However, I don't find Joe Hill's work on the same level as his father's. But, hey, that's just my opinion.
Let's see....What is my favorite Stephen King novel? Until this last one, I'd have to say The Green Mile; before that one came out, I particularly liked Misery and Dolores Claiborne.
I read The Shining during a blizzard and scared the wits out of myself.
