Mad Mountain King

The music video below (really, just music with one image) is from the space-age instrumental rock album "Joy" by Apollo 100. It is a version of Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" entitled "Mad Mountain King". It's a brief and fast song.

I was reminded of this when B B Idaho mentioned Edvard Grief in a comment on my recent Röyksopp post.  Apollo 100 is best known for their rocking version of Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

Sort of interesting, the opening pizzicato followed by continual application of 'accellerando' in that movement. According to Wiki,
Greig was less than satisfied with
his score, ""I have also written something for the scene in the hall of the mountain King – something that I literally can't bear listening to because it absolutely reeks of cow-pies, exaggerated Norwegian nationalism, and trollish self-satisfaction! But I have a hunch that the irony will be discernible." For those of
us growing up with Disney, it was one of the Mickey Mouse
tunes. Though hardly a music critic, I don't think it reeks of cowpies...

Greig predicted some things, I guess. I've seen some bad blog comments from others that reek of "trollish self-satisfaction"

Probably should mention the current Norsk composer Rolf Løvland, although, his style is
more celtic ...
