The "Groene Lanterne"

I recently ran across this link:

http://www.todaystmj4.com/features/dirtydining [WTMC in Milwaukee]

Restaurant De Groene Lanterne
(Green Lantern) Amsterdam
It features the filthy restaurants of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. with reports and follow-up. Rather unsavory, but this web site seems like it is serving a very good purpose. I have plenty of tales of bad restaurant service, but none of filthy restaurants. I am curious if my readers have any interesting and horrible stories of filthy restaurants. Add them in your comments. It might jog my memory.

I was going to accompany this article with another postcard view of a Green Lantern restaurant. Not because any of them are filthy, but because I think that it is cool that there are restaurants and bars called Green Lantern. Probably the emerald force of will keeps such restaurants clean anyway. I featured one previously, but can't find any postcards of additional Green Lantern restaurants. I did run across this photo (not a postcard) of the "Restaurant De Groene Lanterne" in Amsterdam  Is this the world's narrowest restaurant? It certainly looks a lot narrower than Sirius Black''s house (No. 12 Grimmauld Place) from Harry Potter.

One review has the following description.

"The intimate place is perfect for a romantic dinner. Trimmed in dark woodwork and accented with farming implements, the interior of this charming restaurant is as inviting as its exterior, lit by green-tinged lantern light."

It boasts a 128 cm dining room. That's 50 inches. I don't think Green Lantern trainer Kilowog could even fit in the door. But it would be all too easy for him to obliterate the restaurant. Or even eat it, treating it like thinly-sliced ham.

This is a great place to dine at, or attempt to, if you are on the "Too Fat to Eat Out at Restaurants" diet.

I imagine that some morbidly obese people might find that restaurant daunting to visit for dinner.

It reminds me of my 6th grade field trip to the Statue of Liberty when a few of the students had to climb the narrow stairs sideways.

I would imagine some might never make it out. Especially if they have a smorgasbord.

50 inches? No wide screen TVs in there...

Oh dear... how claustrophobic that would make me!

We did indeed have a terrible experience in a Chinese restaurant one evening. Our meal came and we were happily chatting and eating, when a customer near us dropped something behind their bench seat. When they pushed the bench seat away from the wall, a bazillion cockroaches ran out and scurried away like a wave.

We beat them to the door. Needless to say, we no longer felt hungry.

Reminds me of the hilarious/disgusting scene in "Men in Black" where the waiter is dribbling roaches out of his sleeve onto the table as he waits on customers.

Yeah, that would be one place I would not visit. I like wide open spaces.

Leticia: Then you might want to go instead to this place. However, it is in Syria.
